DJ LA GOSSE IS 07 UK CHAMPION

DJ LA GOSSE SCOOPS MOVIDA CORONA NATIONAL DJ CROWN AT THE MINISTRY OF SOUND

DJ La Gosse will represent England in the world’s biggest DJ competition after clinching the national title at the final of Movida Corona held at London’s famous Ministry of Sound.

The 30 year old from Hackney, London, will now go forward to the world final of Movida Corona in Rome in December where she will compete against DJs from more than 70 countries.

DJ La Gosse beat more than 500 other mixing masters from across England who took part in this year’s competition, backed by Corona Extra beer, Heats were held across the country with regional finals in the north, the midlands, the south and London.

It is the latest career success for Marseille-born DJ La Gosse, alias Gaelle Trincheiras, who has recently been confirmed for a residency at Egg nightclub in London’s King’s Cross.

Gaelle, who has been mixing for five years, said: “I’m delighted to have won the competition, I entered it as a fun thing and never imagined that I would end up representing England in the world final.

“Everything is going very well for me at the moment, with my residency and now this, it is very exciting.”

She added: “I got into DJing because I have been going to clubs since I was young and I’ve always loved this kind of music. It seemed fun to step into the other side of the booth and have a go.

“Hopefully my success will encourage other women to do the same and see what they can achieve.”

Movida Corona is a recognised launch pad onto the world stage by encouraging talented DJs to showcase their skills.

Andy Milford, from Tamworth, west midlands, was crowned Movida champion of the world in 2003 and is now organiser of the competition in the UK.

He said: “Movida Corona continues to be an intense and passionate competition, the intensity of this year’s heats and finals has been extraordinary.

“The great beauty of Movida Corona is that it gives new DJ’s a fantastic platform in what is becoming an increasingly difficult industry to break into.

“This competition gives DJs the chance to fully express themselves in what is a ‘bona fide’ art form. The results throughout the competition have been tremendous and it is a great credit to all who have taken part.”

The Movida Corona finalists were treated like VIPs on final night as Corona Extra gave them a tour of London on the beer’s liveried double-decker bus and a spectacular dinner on a Thames cruise, with music and entertainment from a modern Mariachi band and spectacular breakdancers.

A massive Corona Extra truck advertised the party and the national final all over the capital, before parking up outside Ministry of Sound.

Angel Garcia Gomez, head of Corona Extra in the UK, said: “We made it a real night to remember for everyone involved in the competition.

“Movida is a Mexican word meaning risky or on the edge, which really reflects the cutting-edge styles of these talented performers.”

Last year’s world final took place in Lucerne, Switzerland, and the winning DJ drove away in a brand new Corona Extra Suzuki Jimny.

This year, the stage is set for the world final in Rome in December where DJs from more than 70 countries will compete.
